There are different kinds of Dentures you can choose from: Complete and Partial Dentures, Overdentures, Implant-Retained Dentures and Immediate Dentures. Dentures provide many benefits. They restore your self-esteem by giving support back to the lips and cheeks, making you look more natural and younger. In addition, you regain your eating ability.
A Complete Denture is placed in the mouth after all the teeth have been extracted and the gum tissue has healed. The healing process takes from a few weeks to a few months, depending upon the patient.
For an Overdenture, at least two roots need to be kept: These roots give support to the denture and help retain the ridge the denture sits on. They are also used to hold the denture in place by placing inserts in the roots and in the denture. The denture then attaches to the roots. If the patient decides on using implants as anchors the dentist uses Implant-Retainted Dentures.
If the patient does not want to be without teeth during the healing period after the extractions, Dr. Bishop can also place Immediate Dentures the same day the teeth are extracted.
To replace one or more missing teeth and prevent other teeth from shifting, you have a choice between a 'Fixed Bridge' or a Partial Denture, which is removable. For a Partial Denture you need to have at least one teeth remaining to attach the denture to.
Dr. Bishop will explain all procedures and will recommend the best solution available for your needs.
